Author Interview: Delicious Defiance

1. What do you feel will most likely capture your reader’s attention regarding your book?
This book really has an attention getting start; in fact the beginning scene is my favorite out of any book I’ve written. The initial feel of the book is immediate, and I think readers will notice the intriguing and innocent characters. There’s a playfulness to how the daughter interacts with her father, and it’s appealing in the most conflicting of ways.

2. What other books would you compare to your own story?
I don’t make comparisons to other books lightly, but I really do feel this story has a similar feel to parts of Lolita. Wanting to capture a young girl’s innocent explorations, I wanted this book’s overall story to be happier than Vladimir Nabokov’s classic. Because of the daughter’s carefree attitude combined with a happy approach to the overall relationship, I think readers will enjoy the similar feel to Lolita while the book remains my own in its entirety.

3. What inspired the title of your latest book?
The daughter in this story constantly wants to do her own thing, defying her father’s wishes. Unlike others her age though, this defiance happens by chance rather than actual choice. There’s a sweetness the father sees in his daughter’s actions. The defiant occurrences between this father and his daughter lead to a different kind of delicious relationship that only grows stronger hence the title.

4. Taken as a whole, what moral, social, or political questions does your story discuss?
The main social question raised by this story is in how the father deals with his daughter’s sexual interest in him. Besides that however, there is also the question of the stigma in which the daughter is treated because of her mother. This book tries to highlight the struggle many daughters experience when their mother’s don’t fit society’s ideas of the perfect woman, though for a brief moment.

5. Artistically or literarily, were there any challenges creating your story’s dynamics?
This story really had a few interesting dynamics that became a challenge to write. Many scenes became longer than I had initially foreseen them. Because of this additional length, I found the book a little more challenging to write day to day. Some scenes were ultimately left out, while others were added on the spot. To my surprise the challenges associated with this story were actually more artistic this time.

6. How do you feel the cover highlights your story?
The cover for this book deserves to go inside a picture frame and hung on a wall. I love this cover. This particular model on the cover is so innocent looking, all while covered in mud as the story’s opening scene highlights. I also really enjoy the series circle, as it stands out nicely. The overall look of the cover makes me excited to keep writing!

7. Share with us an interesting fact or moment in your book.
There’s a moment in this book where the daughter reflects on her feelings on being excluded from society. To her, society is simply a harsh place where she remains unwelcomed. I think it’s interesting to see how this attitude impacts her feelings toward her father. The situation seems to impact readers in different ways, which I find absolutely fascinating.

8. What is your favorite part or scene in your book?
My favorite scene remains the opening part of the book. The daughter plays so innocently in the sprinkler giving no thought to how she might be turning others on. To her, the world is just an interesting place filled with new things to discover. I feel this part of the book really highlights what readers are looking for, as it’s a blending of purity and sexual curiosity.

9. What appeals to you most about writing for this genre?
This genre always remains fun to explore, and right now I’m really enjoying the different opinions raised by father daughter relationships. There are always people blaming one particular influence over another, and I enjoy exploring both sides of such arguments. Plus, I enjoy the innocent characters discovering who they really are in their adult worlds.

10. Is there a place readers can leave feedback or comments such as social media sites or email?
I always welcome feedback, especially from readers. If someone wants to leave feedback, there’s always a place to do so on my Lot’s Cave Author Page or usually a place to write a review directly wherever a book was purchased. As far as social media, readers can email or contact me directly at the following places:
